Joint sand is part of the preparation—not a detail to overlook. We assess depleted sand and the final height before sealing.

We use properly graded ASTM C144 joint sand. On beveled pavers, it generally finishes about 1/8 inch below the bottom of the chamfer; on non-beveled or tumbled pavers, about 1/8 inch below the top surface.
Review the existing sand, depletion, and surface condition.
Clean and replenish the joints as appropriate to the project.
Check sand height before planning any sealer application.
Joint-sand work does not correct all structural or installation problems. We explain issues outside the treatment scope.
